ROADMAP TO HOMESCHOOLING GUIDE

Eric Inspired Art Activity with recycled materials

Looking for a creative, low-prep art activity that actually keeps your kids engaged and learning?

Enter: Eric Carle–inspired process art.

This recycled art activity is perfect for early years, homeschoolers, and parents who want to spark creativity without needing fancy supplies. Bonus? It’s sensory-rich, open-ended, and beautifully messy. Let’s dive in!

What you need:

🖌️ Paint (any colours you love)
🧻 Tissue paper
🧃 Recycled objects (toilet rolls, bubble wrap, foil, bottle tops, sponges, etc.)
📦 Cardboard or art mat
✂️ Scissors & glue

The steps:

1. Paint your tissue paper with a base colour. Make sure you have something underneath the tissue paper because this part does get messy!

2. Use your recycled materials to stamp, scrape, and print texture using any other colours you like.

3. Let it dry (this is a good snack break moment!)

4. Cut out shapes to form your collage — bugs, plants, animals, whatever they imagine

5.Assemble it all together and glue to create their masterpiece!

The Beauty of Process Art:

Unlike product-based crafts that focus on copying an end result, process art is all about the experience.

Kids get to explore materials, make decisions, and truly express themselves.

This helps build:

  • 💡 Independent thinking

  • ✋ Fine motor control

  • 🎨 Confidence in creativity

  • 💬 Communication and storytelling through art

You don’t need to be an art teacher or have a Pinterest-worthy setup.
You just need a few scraps, some paint, and permission to let your kids explore.
